(I'm posting this under politics and activism because this benifit is for a dedicated progressive activist, the backbone of SOS Food, who has volunteered for many causes and through her healing work and teaching creative dance to kids, her life is activism. The Sixth St Community Center is a rare place in this city, a nexxus point for activism and community of all sorts, particularily regarding sustainable agriculture.)
-----------
Benefit Sat nite to celebrate life - for Trish Doherty, incredibly kind person and hard working activist. Trish has cancer and urgently needs funds for her therapy. As a result of being so wonderful, she has amassed a collection of talented, creative friends (including a gourmet chef - b sure to check the menu below!)
I've previously attended one benefit at Sixth Street, and while I didn't know the beneficiary well, I was deeply inspired by the energy of community that came together, and had a wonderful time. After traveling across the country and reluctantly returning to NYC, that benefit reminded me that there is fantastic community and loving spirit here!
The fun-draiser is Saturday March 8 , 7-11 at the Sixth Street Community Center , 638 East 6th Street (between Avenues B & C), Manhattan.
It will be an amazing evening of performance and interaction. There will be a silent auction with gifts available for you to bid on and a delicious menu of food (see below) to tantalize your taste buds.
Performers already lined up include DrDoALot, Paz, Beth (Lushlyf) and many more including poetry and spoken word, dance, song and story .
