Sisters of Life, based in New York city, use the 'Madonna of the Streets' image as their emblem because of the miracle associated with it. A young woman had just given birth to a child and had nowhere to go. As she was wandering the streets with the baby in her arms, she was trying to decide how to get rid of it. She was certain she could not sustain it, or herself for that matter. As she turned the corner, she saw Mary, the Mother of Jesus, walking with her baby in her arms. Mary said to the young woman, 'I'll take your baby. And you take my baby.'
