"A little weak but the game is still great"
I never played the original Street Fighter Alpha 3 but I did manage to get my hands on Street Fighter Alpha Anthology which includes all the Street Fighter alpha games. There are a few things I like and allot of things I dont like with this game. Starting with what I dont like.

Dislikes: Street Fighter Alpha 3 is not really a smooth 2D fighting game, it lacks a little bit of somthing that Street Fighter Alpha 2 didn't lack and thats "power." For some strange reason Capcom made all the fighters a little weak, I mean fire ball attacks takes about 10% of life damage away but the upper cuts can still leave bruises on your character. Another problem aside from the weak fighting engine is the cast of characters. Capcom isnt like SNK they don't have that many fun characters to choose from that is why I usually stick with Guile, Charlie, Vega, somtimes Sagat, and Ken.

Likes: Street Fighter Alpha 3 may not have the best fighting system, but it does have incredible good music in the game that is quite easy to keep in your head. Some of the stages are interesting too like Guile's military stage, Cody's prison escape, Ken's mansion, Sagat's Statue, and Adon's Garden jungle. I cant remember all the stages but allot of them are good. You also have three different special move meters for standerd, proffessional, and custom. Then there are four hidden special move sets, including the classic meter that allows you to play like the classic old school Street Fighter games (you wont be able to use super moves). This feature is for those who wouldnt mind a challenge.

Whats missing from the Alpha 3 version in Anthology is the world tour feature where the announcer annouces the destination like in the old classic Street Fighter games. It was removed from the Anthology version but kept in the original Alpha 3 version.

This game is well worth owning, the fighting is kind of weak, but the game itself is still fun to play. - Vincent , posted 11/16/06
