"Thrills Of The Streets"
Streets Of Rage 2, is the second sequel to the classic beat em up game Streets Of Rage. Streets Of Rage 2 is better, longer, and more improved than the first one with superior graphics, and lets not forget the inhanced dance music to keep the fights in the streets flowing.
Set a year after the original, the unnamed city is now peaceful and free of the crime syndicate that controlled it. On the eve of the 1 year anniversary of their defeating the syndicate, Blaze, Adam and Axel met for drink. The next morning Axel received a frantic phonecall from Eddie 'Skate' Hunter, Adam's younger brother, whom he was living with on the edge of the city (both Blaze and Axel had moved out of the city entirely). Blaze and Axel found Adam and Skate house wrecked and a picture of Adam chained to a wall at the feet of Mr. X. The city then once again returned to its nightmarish state, with the city streets, roads and parks swarming with criminals, unable to contact their old friend (still unnamed) in artillery (who provided the original special attack in Streets of Rage) Axel and Blaze team up with Skate, and Max Thunder, who is an old friend of Axel's, to free the city and rescue Adam from the syndicate's private island.
This time there are two new characters to choose from "Max, And Skate" Skate is Adams kid brother unfornatly Adam was replaced by Skate but this isn't a problem since Skate can actually run (actually he's skating). But the other characters for some odd reason can't.I suppose Skate is the most unique character of them all, he seriously fights with roller blades on! Thats pure 1980's.
The gameplay in the first Streets Of Rage was slow. Streets Of Rage 2 is also a little slow...if not slower now that Max the giant wrestler is included, I suppose trading strength for speed is not a bad thing but if you are playing with another person they can easily select Skate and hogg up all the bad guys to themselves by beating them up and stealing health just to aggravate you. So only choose Max is someone picks Axl or Blaze....then again all three characters are faster than Max.
Speaking of gameplay, the special moves have been upgraded so instead of calling the cops for backup, each character has two special moves of their own. Axl can rapidly punch or use a Tiger upper cut, Skate can break dance or use a drill attack, Max is the most powerful so his moves do the most damage he can do a football tackle rush, or a spinn attack with his fist which is very effective against swarms of enemies just like Axls Tiger upper cut. But in order to perform special moves you have to make a sacrafices, and those sacrafices means that you will lose about 5% of your life bar. It doesn't drain that much unless you constantly use special attacks.
Streets Of Rage 2 is not hard to master, it plays exacally like the first game except its allot better, and smoother. There are 8 stages in the game, mostly all of them are well designed, every stage except for the Swamp looks magnificent. You fight in locations such as "Arcades, Streets, The beach, elevators, The Swamp, Base ball stadium, The bridge, inside of a truck, buildings, a factory, and etc. Some levels have extra parts to them. There is also a time limit in the game, if the time limit reachs zero you'll die and lose an extra man. Lucky for you the time is extremelly slow and can be ignored so you can take how long as you want to complete a stage because each time it tells you to "GO" your time skips back up to "99."
Boss fights are challenging, in this one thanks to the difficulty setting you can play Streets Of Rage 2 at your own skill levels. When I would play with another person we would try to finish the game on Hardest and I actually managed to complete the game on Hardest with no extra lives left or continues and the last boss came close to killing me. On Hardest you are pit up against 2-3 and somtimes even 4 bosses on every stage with 5 life bars meaning you'll spend allot of time trying to defeat them.
After you complete Hardest you can put in an even harder mode, this mode will alow the AI to move at ultimate speed! And your character is still moving slow so the AI is much harder and faster than a speeding bullet. Therefore only play this mode with another person unless your up for a real challenge.
Streets Of Rage 2 was the best one in the series, I hated part 3 even though all the characters can finally run, the stages are very boring, enemies can block and you cant, the music is dull extremelly dull because all the dance rave/trance themes from the first two games were removed. There are a few good themes in Streets of Rage 3 but not allot. Then the cast of characters all stink, Axl looks weird and shorter, Skate is more improved though, Blaze looks like a prison whore, and Max or Adam didnt make the cut so they added a stupid old man thats really just a cyborg in the game and damn he's the worst character of them all. But at least you can play as Shiva! The sub boss of Streets Of Rage 2.
