"The Best Double Dragon Video Game!"
Super Double Dragon is the last Double Dragon game developed by Technos (before the bankruptcy) that stuck to the traditional beatemup style of the arcade trilogy and its ports. Released only for the Super Nintendo, this game features enhanced graphics, multiple enemies and weapons, a plethora of martial arts moves and seven missions to complete.

Super Double Dragon didn't have the marketing impact that Technos or Tradewest would have liked. It was easily eclipsed by the release of Street Fighter II a year earlier and didn't receive enough advertising. Nintendo Power, the leading Nintendo magazine, didn't even cover this game either. Double Dragon's popularity had begun to decline despite the fact that the cartoon and movie were soon to be released. Battletoads and Double Dragon along with Double Dragon V managed to attract more attention to the series than this game, despite not being real Double Dragon games and being released a year or two later than Super Doube Dragon. This game has been far overlooked when it did so much to add to the series.

Plot of the game:

The Shadow Warriors have once again kidnapped Marian, who happens to be a cop. The leader, Duke, has his own dojo and wants to take over the town. He orders that the brothers surrender their dojo to him, but they won't tolerate any of that nonsense so they head out into the streets and raise hell.

Levels:

Super Double Dragon breaks up into 6 stages of mayhem (casino, airport, streets, truck station (you also get to fight on top of a moving truck too), dojo, bridge, and some business building.

Music and sound:

The music in the game is incredible and catchy, there is no way you'll forget the tunes of Super Double Dragon I found myself constantly whistling stage 5 outloud and then I spent a few hours online looking for the soundtrack. The game not only has great stages and music, there is also a fun cooperative mode which makes everything allot more fun. The downfall is the sound effects, the enemies sound kind of strange when they die, and the punching and kicking doesn't sound all that great either.

Last comments:

Unlike other Double Dragon games, you do more than just use three buttons, since the game is for Super Nintendo you can do several special moves like spin kick, rage mode (to attack faster), 7 hit punch combo, and a 7 kick combo attack.

If you own a Super Nintendo system I highly reccomend this game to anyone that is a fan of beat em up titles of the 1990's. Or if you never played a Double Dragon game before, you should start off with this one first. Super Double Dragon became my favorite beat em up game for the Super Nintendo...since I never got the chance to really play the Final Fight series. - Vincent , posted 11/15/06
